Girls' books

Girls' Books are always discounted at Schoolhouse Publishing!

Finding good books for our daughters can be so challenging.  Many of the books available today  - even the Christian ones - emphasize dating and popularity.  Though I'm not opposed to a little romance (even the book of Proverbs says love is one of the things too wondrous to understand), I want romance portrayed biblically, such as you might find in Laura Ingalls Wilder's Little Town on the Prairie (two young people guarding their hearts and getting to know each other in the context of family).  I really don't want my daughters to be thinking about how to catch a boyfriend.  I don't want them to worry about who likes who and how they can get some male attention by wearing certain hairstyles or clothing.  I don't mind my girls being modestly stylish, but I don't want that to be their focus.  One way to serve their hearts in this way is to provide them with literature that shows young ladies living full and happy lives without being focused on boys and fashion.  The books in this section are among the ones our daughters have enjoyed reading.  Please read them before giving them to your daughter, because your standards may differ from ours.

An SHP Favorite!, Softcover

"Caution: Writing In This Book Might Be Fun!" (Girls version) was written by my daughter and my daughter-in-law. My daughter, Monica, loves to write and desires to pass her sense of enjoyment on to other students. My daughter-in-law, though she doesn't profess to "love" writing, is a wonderful writer. She is, however, one of the most talented, feminine, delightful young ladies you'd ever want to meet. Monica and Rachel teamed up to create a book full of wonderful, girly ideas to write about. Your daughter might actually enjoy creative writing!

In one of the most universally loved and admired English novels, a country squire of no great means must marry off his five vivacious daughters. Austen's comedy of manners--one of the most popular novels of all time--features splendidly civilized sparring between the proud Mr. Darcy and the prejudiced Elizabeth Bennet as they play out their spirited courtship in a series of 18-century drawing-room intrigues. Jane Austen's art transformed this effervescent tale of rural romance into a witty, shrewdly observed satire of English country life.
