This is one of the most logical, well-written, user-friendly high school level writing courses I have yet found. It is designed to gently and thoroughly develop your student's writing skills. Two things you need to know about Sharon Watson: she herself is an amazing writer, so her course is fun and interesting rather than textbookish; and she's incredibly encouraging. In fact her objectives for the course are two-fold: to gain in competence/skill AND to impact the student's attitude toward writing through encouragement and success.

Step-by-Step Grammar Study Cards help students to learn definitions and lists presented in Step-by-Step Grammar: Vol. I: Basic Grammar. Students must have this information readily available in their heads at all times if they are going to master English grammar and apply its principles to their writing. 

Stories for God's Glory is a new creative writing curriculum for homeschoolers.  If you have a middle-school aged student (grades 4-8) who enjoys writing fiction, you are going to love this interesting, well-written, easy-to-use (and self-directed) curriculum!

Word Artist is a simple guide is a delightful introduction to writing poetry. Your fourth-tenth grade student will be led through 3 units that introduce him first to poetic devices, then to non-rhyming poetry such as Psalms and haiku, and finally to rhyming poetry such as limericks. Each assignment comes with samples (many written by other students), and ideas, as well as a writing challenge. By the time your student has worked through this easy-to-use book, he will have written an entire "book" of poetry - a real keepsake! And, Word Artist even provides step-by-step instructions on bookbinding!

What a fun way to learn sentence diagramming! Designed for grades 5-12, the Grammar Slammer provides easy instruction for a complicated subject (at least complicated to ME!). Karen Newell, author of Write On! (one of my favorite creative writing programs - see link below),  is a gifted teacher. Your students will find her approach interesting, non-threatening, and friendly. Skills are reinforced with a game (instructions and "cards" included) for one or more students.

Character Italics. These books are set up just like the Getty-Dubay Italic series, but provide additional practice. What makes them really special is that the child practices his penmanship by copying wonderful quotes from wise men and women. There are quotes from George Washington, Ben Franklin, Thomas Edison, Charles Spurgeon, the Bible, and much more. Each book provides more than 70 pages of additional practice.
