Goodnight Moon by Margaret Brown Wise
Goodnight Moon details the funny bedtime ritual of a little bunny. Before going to sleep, the little bunny says goodnight to everything around him: the moon, the cow, the red balloon, the doll house, and so on. The book is written in rhyme. One of the fun details about this book are the illustrations. An attentive child will find all kinds of quirky things in the illustrations: like the fact that the book sitting on the bedside table just happens to be Goodnight Moon, and the red balloon disappears and reappears on various pages. Even the hands on the clock change from page to page and the room grows gradually darker. In fact the illustrations almost act like a "spot the differences" game, with even the colors in the bunny's shirt, the number of books on the shelf, and other details changing from page to page. Your young child is sure to enjoy this clever book! A fun addition to your homeschool library.
Goodnight Moon is required reading in Learning Language Arts Through Literature Blue Book and in earlier editions of Sonlight Curriculum.
