Truthquest American History for Young Students II (1800 - 1865 ) by Michelle Miller

America is off and running! She's settling in with her new presidents, and must show England (in the War of 1812) how serious she is about being a free nation. The wonderful values in America's Constitution fostered a surge of creativity and hard work, which helped kick off the Industrial Revolution in the U.S., and sent many more pioneers west.

Excitement was in the air: trains were chugging, the Pony Express was zooming, new inventions were changing life, settlers were pouring down the Santa Fe and Oregon Trails, and whole new sections of the West were being added to America! But would American success lead to American pride? Would the people seek God first?

The answer to that question helps children understand how America handled the problems she was facing: displaced Indians, terrible working conditions in many factories, the plight of slaves, enlarging government, and finally the Civil War!

Ideal for Grades 1 - 5, however literature selections are also appropriate for upper grades.

If you're a bibliophile with young students, this is the curriculum for you! When our children were of elementary age, we used this book, along with the other 2 Truthquest American History for Young Students books in this series. I was so thankful for this "guide" through American History!
I desired a "gentle" curriculum to use with young children that would expose them to the events and people in the history of our country, and did not want to utilize a traditional textbook. When I opened the first TQHYS guide, I knew I had found what I was looking for!
The children I was teaching at that time were all boys. They LOVED history time! I got my "book fix" by being able to share quality, worthwhile books aloud with my boys, while they relished the opportunity to enjoy the book in their own sytle....one listened quietly, sometimes playing with Legos, another rolled around the did flips and somersaults, while the third split his time between snuggling on my lap, looking at pictures, and toddling around the room.
I have fantastic, warm memories of the days when we went through this curriculum and I know that my boys gained a love for history and books, while learning much about our nation's past.
