Though I admit I’ve never been overly fond of Apologia high school science, I keep coming back to them, because - frankly - they are so well done. I did really like General Science (grade 7+) and Physical Science (grade 8+), though my son thought they were very text-bookish. Biology (grade 9+)...well, it just seems to me that it’s loaded with an over-abundance of information beyond what a high schooler needs - unless he’s heading into this field. (By the way, it is advertised as college-prep, so this would make sense.) The flip side is that a friend of mine has a daughter who was not headed into this field, and she loved Apologia Biology. That’s why it’s important to research each product and not rely on one person’s opinion! We are currently carrying sets (including a student text and a test book/answer key). The Apologia Biology course is designed to be the student’s first high school science course. It is recommended that the student take this course during the same year that he or she is taking Algebra 1. Exploring Creation With Biology is a college-prep biology course that provides a detailed introduction to the methods and concepts of general biology. Heavily emphasizing the vocabulary of biology, it provides the student with a strong background in the scientific method, the five-kingdom classification scheme, microscopy, biochemistry, cellular biology, molecular and Mendelian genetics, evolution, dissection, and ecosystems. It also provides a complete survey of the five kingdoms in Creation. Please note that this course does not contain a discussion of human anatomy and physiology. Students who take and understand this course will be very well-prepared for a tough university biology course. This is a 2-volume set. The first book, hardbound, is the student text, which contains all student material, on-your-own questions and solutions, laboratory exercises, and chapter study guides. Color illustrations and diagrams. The second book, softbound, is the solutions and tests manual, which contains answers to chapter study guides, tests, and test solutions. The set retails for $85.00.
