Exploring Creation With Astronomy

Exploring Creation With Astronomy begins with a lesson on the nature of astronomy, and then it covers the major structures of our solar system. Starting with the sun and working towards Pluto, the student will learn details about all nine planets (or is it eight? - your student will have to decide) in the solar system. Along the way, the student will also learn about Earth’s moon, the asteroid belt, and the Kuiper belt. After that, the student will move outside our solar system and learn about the stars and galaxies that make up God’s incredible universe. Finally, the student will learn about space travel and what it takes to be an astronaut!

Exploring Creation With Astronomy begins with a lesson on the nature of astronomy, and then it covers the major structures of our solar system. Starting with the sun and working towards Pluto, the student will learn details about all nine planets (or is it eight? - your student will have to decide) in the solar system. After that, the student will move outside our solar system and learn about the stars and galaxies that make up God’s incredible universe. Finally, the student will learn about space travel and what it takes to be an astronaut! The activities and projects use easy-to-find household items and truly make the lessons come alive! They include making a solar eclipse, simulating the use of radar to determine a hidden landscape, making a telescope, and making an astrometer to measure the brightness of a star. We recommend that you spend the entire school year covering this book, devoting approximately two sessions per week to the course.

My kids truly loved this particular study - it remains their favorite to this day! The notebook they created (from scratch, since this was prior to the release of the notebook journals) is truly a work of art. You can see some of the projects they created at any convention we attend - we'll have them on display. I love science books that not only educate, but captivate as well - and Jeannie Fulbright's textbooks do just that!

This was my favorite book in Apologia's Young Explorer Series. This was the first book my mom chose for us. I am thankful she chose it - it was easy to learn and I understood more about the planets and stars. I even enjoy reading myself and so does my younger brother who's 7. (He even would read ahead! and to tell the truth - so did I!) I would recommend this for all!

This is just a wonderful series and this book is a great place to start. My 7 year old son just completed this series this year. It helps that he loves rockets & space. He willingly read his book and would tell me great facts about what he read. It is taught from such a strong apologetic standpoint. Today he was reading another book (Usborne) and he said, "Mom - this has evolution in it!" It was describing how the moon came to be - he recognizes these right away and they call them out! Great resource

Apologia's Elementary Science series is my favorite science curriculum that I have ever used in my 8 years of homeschooling. Exploring Creation with Astronomy was the first guide we used and we loved it. Since then I have ordered and used most of the other guides as well. I love that I can combine my children using it and they all enjoy it and learn things from it. The pictures and quality of the book are excellent as well as the online resources for researching the topics further. I highly recommend these guides
